Something wicked is coming through the swamp...

Hey,

It's been a very long way but the end is near...
Last week the beast has been attached to its plinth, the edges were secured with masking tape ready for artifical water so below it's the last work in progress shot from painitng the oldie zombie dragon.
I'm not writing more about the model because the next post (when whole resin is dry) will be 100% dedicated to that project but you can see more-less the final result. Whole piece has been sprayed with matt varnish to set pigments used for some shading and for base but I think it will be also sealed with super matt Revell varnish.
There's never enough of protection plus taking photo of matt object (especially the banners) should be easter and more effective. We'll see...

Anything more?

Hell yeah! Also last week I got a day off work for blood donation. After the fluid of life* was pumped out from my veins system I had some free time which was just enough to get into gaming spot and put the first layer of paint on the gaming table.
It's finally happening! The colors are appearing! The vision of playing games using PAINTED miniatures and PAINTED table is materializing!

I was bit worried because it was my very first attempt of painitng such a thing, but I am quite satisfied of the result after paint dried. I think I will add another layer to make the structure more battle damage proof - I used heavily diluted water based paint mixed with lots of white glue. The next step is drybrushing some mild sand color to make whole area look more less like nice ash wastes with a touch of rust.

And the last thing for this update.
Last but not dreaming... Hmmm... Dead but not least? Hmmm... Last but not least?

CTHULHU FFS!!!

Last Thursday I took a visit to the tattoo parlour from where Great Cthulhu has risen about 3 years ago. Getting inked is a pleasant thing but it's also quite addictive (God... errr... let's say Great Ancient Ones know why actually) so some time ago I decided to pull the sleeve down from right arm to just above the wrist.
After ~3,5 hrs of work here's more-less the current state of the picture. For now it's just a nightgaunt and the well teaser, some more will be revealed after the next visit to the parlour. Again I took some photos while the tattoo was applied so after whole piece is done (hopefully about March) I should have enough material for another article.

I just hope with this sleeve the lust for ink will be totally fulfilled...

Laters!

*which in my case is formaldehyde

Big bang!

Looks like the new year's painting has started with the bang. Or even big bang! (at least on the summary chart...). By the half of the month I added 6 models to the painted side! Sure it's nothing complicated and big but hey, it's statistics what counts!

So what do we have here?
The first piccie is group of Cryx necrosurgeon's little helpers: stitch thralls.
These little bastards were fun to paint: quick and easy job. Hope to start their boss shortly so the full unit can deliver necessary aid to any deader on the battlefield.
I also tested dead flesh tone on these guys and I think something quite similar will be used on mechanithrall squad. Should look even better confronted with corroded metal.

And since were at corroded metal theme - here's the second group of my heavy wreck markers. As you can see the original bases were cut and filed so the junk could be placed on standard 50 mm gaming bases, which I like much more than original ones.
Just like painitng small wrecks there's absolutely nothing complicated here: basecoat, some metallics, some washes, some pigments, some varnish and voila!

Next time I'll try to bring something more game effective.

Heil Toruk!

Another mile through Styx

Hey there in the brand new, shiny and still smelling factory year 2014.

The whole depressive christmas time is over, the same for ghastly new year's eve so it's time to focus on something what really counts.

Once again I managed to paint something.
It's nothing big sadly, but definitely enough to be added to annual summary: medium size wreck markers for my Cryx force. Original wrecks stand on flat bases but I decided to put them on 40mm round  lip ones. My warjacks use them so my wrecks will as well.

Painitng junk is fast and easy - I think painitng both piles of junk took me like 2 hours?
This + waiting until wash on the sand dried (that's probably the most time consuming part of whole painitng process). It's nothing contest worthy but fits the battle force well so hope to use them shortly (in the Ashhyxious' tier based, uber-nasty list hehehe...)

Speaking of Cryx: last night while I was having a break from doing some boring paper work I found mutilated mechanithrall miniature, which steam fists and head I needed for converting model for "Enthrallment painitng challenge" on No Quarter. You can read a bit about it here if you have some spare time to waste.

So I found that poor dead soul and decided to muster it back to the animated legion of Master Toruk. I was also quite happy to use spare placcy parts from EE models (finally these silly termie arms were found useful). Several drill holes and wallpaper knife cuts later brute thrall* wannabe was ready for painting. It's pretty skinny as for brute thrall so I think I will add some mode pipes to make it differ more from ordinary mechanithralls. And of course I need to get mechanithralls unit ^^

And the last thing now - annual summary.
The official score is 30 painted models vs 21 played games.
It's definitely not as much as I'd wish for but it's still something. I mean, on average it's more less a model painted and game played once per 2 weeks so (on average) every week I either played a game or painted a model.
Statistics is such a crap ^^

Even though the chart below doesn't look optimistic I shouldn't complain: after all I am still in the hobby business even though I work more and even though we're quite busy with trying to properly raise that little spawn ov hell who lives under the bed... eee... I mean the baby.
There're no goals  for the coming year - I still have several started projects which I'd love to see finished one day but it's nothing worthy acting under pressure. I want to finally enjoy the hobby 100%, the fun is what hobby is for.

So is there anything I can wish you all for the new year? And for the years coming after?
Yup: try to take things easy, keep distance from life, live and let others live the way they want. Life is short and there's no guarantee for another.

Keep warm!

* Some time ago I used original brute thrall model for painting contest. It was fun but the price was high: Dragonfather's legion in ElblÄ…g lost 5 reliable slaves.
