Gorkamorka ork nob

I was actually starting preparing some models for the upcoming historical painting contest but because cutting parts off the frames and assembling winter US infantry is pretty boring, I decided to work on little something, which has been giving me sad look from the back rank of display case for quite a long time... ðŸĨš

There's a story behind this one - just like behind everthing...
A solid while back, when we were still into Necromunda, I was trying to get and paint basic gang for Gorkamorka. The game was dead for a long time already but those days some models were still available on second hand market. I remeber I managed to get placcy ork trukk (with wrecker ball and metal ram) and ork nob - or whatever it's name was in Gorkamorka. Joy, oh joy!!!

Really couldn't wait to strip the paint and start working to give old models new shine ðŸĪ—

Sadly back days I used different stuff to wash models and as it turned out shortly - this time I used the wrong one. Plastic trukk got bended and kinda melted, leaving only metal parts stripped properly. The vehicle got ruined so it became reservoir of conversion bits for further projects. Like Dakka-Dakka bot... ðŸĪ–

Since there was no Gorkamorka gang anymore and I still had cool model, all I could do was painting it - which I did. I've never played any sort of greenskins so it got display plinth, got some painting and sadly - got forgotten shortly after. Until now. As veteran painter and gamer I am kinda ashamed such a cool sculpt didn't get proper painting so after it's been re-discovered last week decision was made to fix that. Heil Gork and Mork!

It's Gorkamorka range so it got desert themed base and rather bright paintwork contrary to the previous version. In fact it's the second model from GM ork line I painted so far - the previous was sacrificed on COFC mini exchange. Until now I haven't found any practical use for keeping greenskin model so Mister Nob became a souvenir (like Necromunda Cawdor juve), only this time - airplane, or rather: fighta-bommer, goes to the other corner of the planet.

Hope it arrives safe and sound and recipient likes this one.

Deathjack (Cryx)

One more Warmachine monstrosity just got crossed off the list. Toruk be praised for that!

When it was still in work-in-progress stage I was seriously afraid I might just put it away back into pile of shame - assembling was pain in the ass already, not mentioning the painting ahead. But all in all decision was made to give it a chance. Just like in case of Lich Lord Terminus model was painted dismantled, and assembled before washing / weathering. Still pain in the ass but I was the only way to get it done.

As for color choice I wanted something different then "classic" Cryx colors. It's rather striking models so I thought painting it bright should make it even more eyecatching. When painting was more-less finished I wanted to give a try to some OSL (head, arms, skulls) but it turned out such undertaking, having only blood red and some medium yellow, might have been not the best idea 😁 I think I might get some much more striking colors and re-do the glowy bits.

Since it's big model it was first sprayed with solid layer of standard, matt varnish and then airbrushed with Vallejo matt to make sure it's gonna be matt: not glossy, not satin, no shit like that. But after everything dried it turned out there's "frost" / "mist" on the whole piece, so everything had to be sealed once again with Revell matt. No idea what was the reason - my guess it's because of damp air (spray was used in the cellar) but have no clue really... 🙄

So here it is - ready to kill for Toruk!

And some scale shot. Sure to make it "correct" I should bring out infantry from Warmachine line, but oldie Necromunda models are slightly smaller, so the overall effect is even better. So here you can see Deathjack about to devour notorious Karloth Valois and his re-animated minions...

Deathjack (Cryx)

This year I've been painting mostly Warhammer Fantasy stuff so the plan is to shift to something different from cute and vivid Chaos stuff. Washing-off container was full of models, but arm of Deathjack emerging from paint stripper was clear sign what strikes painting desk next.

This thing is painting and assembling nightmare. I know that not only pinning all those metal bits was one, fuc#ing pain in the ass, but also it's the third Deathjack I've been working on... Yup - apparently I am kinda sadomasochistic ðŸĨī

I was pretty sure some pics of other Deathjacks were posted somewhere on early stage of blogging, but I must have been wrong. The only photos available now are the ones on CoolMiniOrNot: model from ~2007 and model from ~2010. Back days we used to play Warmachine a lot, but after the game fever worn off and true life kicked in, the game was dropped and I sold most of my Cryx collection. Some years later it turned out my buddy was getting rid of remains of Warmachine stuff and I was lucky enough to get some badly assembled and thick-coated models. It was actually the same guy who managed to assemble Cybertronic Eradicator Deathdroid's legs wrong way so as you can see - it was serious case ðŸĪŠ

As for and model - it's big, metal, heavy and pain in the ass to paint. As you can see compared to Warhammer Inquisitor (or whatever the hell this guy's job is) DJ is probably larger then dreadnought. As for Inquisitor - I got it during one of Chest of Colors miniature exchanges long time ago (thanks again TMZ!). Because the model has lots of hard to get spots, decision was made to paint the parts first and assemble them later - just like I did with Lich Lord Terminus. Should work...

The only thing to consider now is choosing colors. I don't think it's gonna be gaming model ever, so it doesn't have to stick to original Cryx aesthetics. I am thinking about bright armour plates (baige? bone? grey?) and dark metallics (brass? tinny tin?) with some glowing effect, but that's just the idea. I want to make the right decision, paint it and NEVER EVER PAINT THE 4TH ONE 😁

Gorkamorka mutie raider

The damn snow is outside to decision was made to paint something warm. And post-nuclear apocalypse desert seems warm enough 🌞

The model below is olschool mutie raider from Gorkamorka game.
I got this beautie maybe like 10 years ago but until now had no idea what to do with it: never played Gorkamorka and now models are hard to get, but even worse - quite overpriced. Expensive enough to make me stay away from the game anyway.

Since it's unique model in my collection I decided to give is a display base. I don't think I play any game it could be used for. The steed got pretty strong fleshtone to make nice contrast to dusty base. As for the raider at first I wanted to give it pale fleshtone but all in all it got some unhealthy suntan. After all - it's a mutant, not a deader!

The photos quality is much better (imo) especially if compared with test photos taken last month. It's still not what I'd like to see on monitor but I'm sure going in the right direction. Maybe I should use some different backgrounds...

Judge for yourself:

Post-apo war bot

Hey,

This time it's something different yet something I wanted to paint for quite a long time. A while back there was a plan to create post-apo gang based on classic Valhallans sculpts.
Sadly all I've managed to do was war bot heavy support, which was based on 40k killa kan.

Never liked the result and was looking for an opportunity to re-do it, which just happened.

First I replaced that silly cannon with napalm drum - flamer ain't most economic weapon after all. As for painting I finally gave a try to warning stripes: the result is just cool, and I kinda regret it hasn't been painted also on other surfaces (front plate or maybe oil drum).

As for red star - the idea was to make the first neo-soviet model for skirmish game my friend's been preparing for a while. There will be swamps, nuclear glow, eldritch creatures and post-apo arsenal so apparently megaton of fun is coming! ðŸ‘―

Carnifex (Warhammer 40000)

Apparently I must be really fed up with winter, COVID and life in general, because my painting got pretty weird and colorful recently
And if pink Autoblinda was weird even for my standards, that Carnifex is just acid! ðŸĪŠ

Acid or not - I like the final result: good acid...
So is the model: it's true eyecatcher in my mostly monotone display case.
In fact I wanted to paint this model for quite a long time. In my opinion it's one of the coolest piece from old Tyranids line:
massive, menacing, fu#king badass! Not even mentioning that cutie-cutie mouth! ðŸĪ—

I had some ideas for painting the thing but after spotting some rainbow crabs photos decision was made to follow the path of Slaanesh. Which actually brought the model pretty close to the official paintwork from the 90's.

The model is big and colorful so I gave it bright, beach base for stronger contrast.
To present the scale I added tank turret from M4 Sherman tank (parts from proper 40k vehicles run out long time ago - most of them were used for DagonMjolner and Beast 666). Fluffwise I imagine if leaving the nest / den / whatever is where these bastards live, to examine what emerged from the ocean of sand:
there still might be some meaty snack inside after all! Told you it's cute! ðŸĨ°

The base is pretty large, but the model definitely deserves it. Not mentioning the fact it prevents if from falling, during the heat of battle (I really hate fixing chipped paint). I got the base with M2A1 howitzer - it was too large for medium  artillery piece (didn't fit ruins and buildings) but it's perfect for self-respecting alien creature.

So here it is, hope you like it:

After uploading the pics I see the bone parts are way too clean and flat - they are getting additional layer of wash and pigments for stronger contrast. I also realised I run out of gloss varnish / water effect - it should be used on underbelly and mouth - crabs (and cosmic crabs in particular!) should these areas  seem to be wet.
Added to the list...

DAKKA!!! DAKKA!!! DAKKA!!!

Now that's what I call advanced necromancy!

That clanky thing below has been waiting for some paintjob more than 10 years, that's for sure. It's been staggering around and there were few times it's almost been dismantled because of it's precious, oldie parts and bits...

It's old shit, and each and every piece of oldie crap I possess has some story to tell.
As you can see there are some bits from Gorkamorka stuff. Story is back, back days I tried to start orky warband and even got some second hand models - all painted.
In fact they were like drowning in paint...

It was not a problem to wash metal models but there was also placcy trukk.
Those days I had no idea breaks fluid does miracle on painted models and I was using really strong pipes cleaner instead... Usually it was ok but this time I prepared WAY too strong mixture and the plastic mostly melted...

No more Gorkamorka for poor Demi =(

But some time later I gathered the remains, added some more vehicle parts and attached it onto cardboard box I've made. Some pins and glue (lots of glue actually) and voila!
DAKKA-BOT was ready.

No idea why it took me so long to get it done, probably because I don't play anything from GW nowdays, and never had much in common with orks.
But it's finished so one more model crossed off the neverending list ov shame.

Always liked "realistic" painting style more than what GW shows in White Dwarfs so tried to keep limited palete on this one. The model was also perfect candidate to test chipping medium on large surfaces.

So hope you like it and seeya next time!

Heavy stuff in Necromunda

It's been a while.
Since I started goddamn learning there's almost no spare time I can use for painting or gaming. Hope It will change by the end of September.

Anyway I've managed to slap some paint despite brutal life issues - all for Necromunda of course. Recently we decided to add some heavy stuff to the campaign so here are some of the ideas.

First: chaos spawn  - not quite old but damn cool sculpt. Assembling it was ond big pain in the ass so now just cannot wait to throw it into combat. That little nasty guy on right is cultist from RAFM (definitely oldschool piece!). At this point it's demon possessed human or spawn-before-change. Some more fairytales with the next battle report.

And this is something to counterweight chaos abomination above.
It really has no name (yet) but it's custom built mobile heavy mortar / heavy servitor or something this fashion. Base model is killa kan of course, right arm is placcy dreadnought arm and kan's flamer and left - leman russ' front cannon mixed with Valhallan infantry mortar. Already made up some rules for it to test during coming games.
Decision was made to paint it with similar tones to "Dagon" Tank 'cause I still have materials for one or two heavy engines (first will be mobile artillery a'la Griffon) and about 15 Valhallans - which is just enough for another Necromuda warband! =D.
Hope you like them.

That's it for now, back to the books...
