Skeleton warriors (Highland Miniatures)

Painting skellies is kinda like knitting:
you get pissed - you paint some bones - you get better.

Too bad I didn't realize it bit earlier, but apparently better late then never.

Anyway last week I excavated another part of spoils of war looted during Oldhammer Weekend 2022: skeleton warriors unit from highland Miniatures range. Models look pretty cool: poses are different, proportions are correct - these guys definitely fit Warhammer range. There's one flaw though: since these are printed, they are also really fragile (those thin limbs and spears especially!). So fragile, several models arrived broken and it's even despite the fact they were pretty well packed. So yeah, if I could choose - purely of gaming purposes I'd pick plastic models instead of printed. Luckly I still had some spare limbs left by the previous boneheads unit, which added bit more vatiety to the freshly dug out death squad.

I have only 15 models from this line so I think these will be just support squad for the main unit or screaming skull catapult / second class character bodyguards. Of course - that is only in my head, because don't think there's even slighiest shade of chance these will move an inch after I put them in the display case hibernation chamber 😵

So here they are - corpses in the park. I think I've managed to adjust lighting a bit so photos turned out really decent:

Bloodthirster / Daemon prince

Actually I was hoping to paint something slightly different but it's hard to drop Warhammer Fantasy habit when it hits back... 🥴 Slaanesh warriors army has been finished but there was one more oldie daemon model dug deep under the pile of shame which could be used as alternative genral: Khorne's Bloodthirster.

It's really old model and I got it somewhere during high school era - which was really long time ago. Since that time I tried to paint it several times - with no success. Since that time model also got it's original whip-hand broken and then lost. In fact I was more then lucky I found spare hand in bits box which could be used on this model...

As for painting I was hoping for more reddish tone but Vallejo reds I have are more rapsberry then red - no idea why. In fact I had other bottle of red ink which was red as fu#c but this one is just damn rapsberry... On the other hand that's not much of loss because apparently it's the only model from under Khorne banner, so decision was made to paint it as Chaos Undivided creature or maybe even Slaanesh style to fit Warriors army.

I am really glad I've FINALLY crossed this one off the list. It was way too cool piece of Oldhammer history to be left in the bucket-of-shame-purgatory. So here are the pics.

First - one of the most epic duels possible back in 4th /5th edition: mighty Bloodthirster facing Lord of the Dead - Nagash! These were days there single models were pure metal and pretty small compared to modern (stupid as fu#k 🙄 ) standards...

Gotta check if there are any more old farts on the bottom of bucket of shame worthy rescue...
Take care!

Dusk Realm Demon (Chronopia)

So it has finally happened: the second of 3 models from Chronopia range in my possession has just been painted. Must admit I got this one long, long time ago although I've never been big fan of Chronopia minis. Haven't been even small fan to be absolutely honest...

Chronopia models are definitely oldschool but apart from literally several models (Myrmadon still is supercool) I don't like them at all - no idea why. I suppose when the system was still alive I used to compare it with Warhammer Fantasy Battle and it was no match for GW stuff.

Anyway among few models I like is Dusk Real Demon and it's only because of it's cute pig face. I had no idea what to do with that model so I gave it 40 mm square base so it fits zombie / skeleton units in HOM&M Undead Army project (if I ever get it finished).
I like strong contrast between flesh and armour, but must admit the armour turned out bit too dark because once again I've overdone oils and pigments. Nevermind - it's just enough for gaming (if I ever manage to roll out my undead / demon army).

Oink! Oink! 🐷

Chronopia Myrmadon / Necromunda mule

Hey all,

It's been a while since I contributed anything to the hobby but I guess sometimes life issues just cannot get easily overcome. I think I got used to painting Bolt Action stuff which somehow brings nice results in quite short time so decision was made to work on something else - to take some rest from painting olive green on each and every model...

On the very bottom of my pile ov shame there was old Blackblood Goblin Myrmadon model:
I've never played Chronopia, this piece was part or stuff won in local painting contest long time ago, when I was still in high school. I've never liked it, personally I think the game was just some sort or mistake and whole the effort put into miniatures range could've been used for spawning more Warzone models.

I thought the miniature could become cool piece for Necromunda game: there's always need for objective markers. Besides it could be decent pack animal - just like brahmins in Fallout.
So old paint was washed off and some stuff attached onto the back: oildrum, some wooden barrels, guns and ammo bags - basically spare sh!t from the hobby box.

Painting is nothing striking - models is supposed to fit gaming board and my gangs. We play in post-apo desert after all, so this determined choise of colors. Metal plates and the load provide nice contrast so yeah: me happy.
So without further introduction - the beast:

And because a month without related to Bolt Action is lost month:
last night we played quite challenging match - 1200 pts strong bad nazis vs 600 pts US boys and their 600 pts strong alies: German democratic opposition.
The scenarion chosen was Double envelope, all in all it was draw but I must say I got seriously pissed several times. Like when allied Hetzer was knocked out in the very first turn, even before moving. My bro definitely underestimated skills of Panzer IV...

On the other hand my bazooka team turned out to be huge pain in the panzer-ass of my opponent so I think I next time I might field another one, maybe instead of sniper team.

The game was the first occasion for me to see results of dipping technique in the flesh. My brother had nothing in common with the hobby for like 15 years? And just for gaming purposes he gave dipping a try to paint German heer. I didn't expect much but results appeared more than satisfying:
1. for gaming purposes only (painting is fast, easy and paint is totally damage-proof),
2. for someone with almost no painting experiene at all.
I'll try to take some pics as soon as he get's more of the swarm finished.

Till the next time!
