Demon hunter (Mishima)

I was actually hoping for painting some more undead legionnaires for nephatire warlord's squad, but instead decision was made to work on rather unusual piece for my taste:
not only alive but also pretty bright 😁 My latest victim was demon hunter from late 90's.

Mishima models are just supercool. The idea of sci-fi samurai faction supported by cool models is something you cannot pass without turning back. Sadly when it comes to playing games I am monogamic and my sould has been sold to forces of darkness long time ago, so don't think I will command Mishina force ever. But that doesn't mean I cannot paint something from that range for a change.

Until I started working on the piece I wasn't sure about the sculpt: I used to think it's just medicore. But I changed my mind just after applying undercoat - model is simply great and not just for oldschool standards. As for color choice I tried to keep it less cartoony then official Warzone paintjobs. Initially the blade was supposed to be painted bright silver but then I thought Ki-force ensorcelled, hot as hell blade is way more suitable to face monstrocities like Alakhai the Cunning:

Here demon hunter is dealing with remains of local secret kohorts:

The model is actually gift piece so it might see some combat tomorrow night and after that it starts the journey to the recipient. And next time: evil machine should roll in... 👾

Golem of darkness / Nepharite warlord

I didn't expect it but Dark Legion force got another character shortly after finishing secret kohorts last week. As mentioned before I had to paint somthing totally different after dealing with 13 red/rapsberry robes so old Golem of darkness model was just perfect for this task.

I really dig official artwork - this guy is just cold, cosmic killing machine. The sculpt is 95% flesh so painting is quick and easy using airbrush. It's large model so it should look just great among standard size cultists or indead legionnaires. Just check this beautie:

And here's the model - not as cool as artwork but still pretty good consindering oldschool Warzone range. The problem was the glaive's pole broke. It's thing and metal part so I couldn't pin the parts so model could be used as gaming piece.

The only choice was quick battlefield surgery. Initially I wanted to rebuild melee weapon palm and replace the original one but that was Golem's left hand would look kinda odd. After some excavation in the bits box I found enough parts to replace both palms: right one got gun instead of glaive, left one got chainsword / ripper / shrubbery cutter.
Why such weapon choice?
It turned out there's another character called Nepharite warlord (junior nepharite) with no official model but carrying Voriche heavy handgun and one-arm Azogar (that bread cutter). And in game it's even better then Golem, because Nepharite warlord is commander of zombie squads boosting their more then pathetic statistics. So here it is:

The secret kohorts #4 (all done!)

It took much more time that I was hoping for initially but my Secret kohorts puzzle got the last missing pieces: supreme necromagus and 2 trusty henchmen. Despite all love I have for oldschool Warzone stuff painting this squad was just acid bath. But this makes me even more happy to know there's nothing to be painted red waiting on the hobby station.

As you can see below I kept color scheme practiced on the first, the second and the third group of cultists. Although there are slight differences between the hues whole unit looks really coherent. They should look even better standing on grassy green battlefield (just like the one Legion repelled Mishima invaders recently).

Since these were the last models from secret kohorts in my possession I tried to spend some extra time the make leader of the group standing out a bit. Not sure it's because of the paintjob but white mask and oversized gun surely make necromagus eyecatching piece (once again big thank to Tymon Ultraa for this idea).

What now? There are some models waiting for some care for a looong time. I'd like to paint something for Undead Army Project but on the other hand crossing another Warzone monstrosity off the list would be great. Whatever it's gonna be it surely won't be red! 🤪

Till the next time!

The secret kohorts #3

It took much longer then I was hoping for but finally another bunch of Algeroth's cult members left painting desk ready to spread chaos and destruction around.
Just like with the first and the second squad I tried color coherency. Sadly once again the robes turned out more rapsberry then bloody red. There are still 3 more cultist models waiting, so maybe they will get properly red rags.

Cuz Algeroth likes red.
So like it Speed Freekzzz 😁

My spies claim that within about 2 weeks fully painted Mishima battalion should be deployed in Elbląg. That means feeding time for Dark Legion beasts. Hope those Mishima-wimps won't just flee, becase I hope to assemble battle report. These housecoats should look great marching on green battlefield...

Dark Soul

Those familiar with dramaric history of Warzone universe, especially stage of early corporate wars know how the hell broke loose: proud scientists, allmighty A.I., unhealthy curiosity...

We all know Imperial Conquistadors reached Nero and found strange tablet, which disturbed Dark Soul. But nobody knew after Imperial expedition two other explorers reached Nero.

Until now...

That's right: two daredevil worshippers of lead and dice staked everything on one card but the risk was worth it. They sacrificed their lives to hobby but thank to this we can finally take a look at face of the very Dark Soul! Behold the Great Devourer, Prince ov Hell or maybe even Azathoth himself! 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻

We know this mystic statue was built by ancient civilisation worshipping forces of Chaos but not much more. Close examination and analysis performed by the best Cybertronic's scientists shows the statue was made of rubber toy filled with plaster, covered by pva glue + sand and then painted with acrylics. But of course these are just rumors - data are classified.

The rumor also says the statue was supposed to be used for the coming Warzone game (Dark Legion vs Cybertronic), and there was supposed to be battle report but SOMEONE decided to sell fully painted army about 2 weeks before the battle and swapping Cybertronic to Mishima... 🙄
Oh well - Dark Soul has been waiting ages to be woken up so I guess it can wait a little bit longer to send Dark Legion against space samurai army.

And in the meantime - some postcards from holiday on Nero:

And some more scale shots - from my painting desk, not Nero...

And the big picture:

See ya in the space! 🤖

The secret kohorts #2

The Cult ov the skull is getting stronger! 🤘💀🤘
It's strong enough to face such a monstrosity as most terrifying nepharite of Demnogonis!

Another trio of worshipers has just joined (modest) ranks of the secret kohorts. I tried to use more-less the same color combo like before to make the squad as much coherent as possible (it was good idea to note them down). Although this time robes look more red then before. It's probably because I didn't use this silly "rapsberry red" wash from Vallejo line.

I like the final look. Metalics should be more shiny, but these are just gaming models so I can sure live with that. What I don't like it that not planned red "hue" on random elements (gloves, shoes). It's not any attempt of object source light or weird shading, but simply screwed masking. including characters there are still 7 models from the range to go, so I have to be more careful with airbrush and masking tape next time.

Dark gods don't like their cultists spreading death and destruction while wearing dirty robes...

These 6 guys are just enough to form small unit which might be included in the coming Warzone game, so there's a chance I can finish piece of terrain (statue of the Dark Soul 😈) for battle report. Fingers, hooves and horns crossed for that!

The secret kohorts #1

Since my Dark Legion finally got the proper leader I decided to support him with with mob of trusty followers. Trusty but also maniacal and absolutely ruthless that is...

During many years spent in the hobby I've managed to collect some models from Dak Legion secret kohorts range. I got them pretty randomly so these are mix of acolytes, initiates and characters. These models are nothing special in the field - these are basically necromutants, but alive (what a shame... 😒). The sculpts are also definitely not the best old Warzone had to offer (my taste that is) but they are very distinctive and they wear robes, so they can look very striking on the battlefield is painted right.

Looking at my Warzone force I can see mix of rust, dark metal, rotting olive and dirt. Shouldn't expect anything else from Dark Legion, but having some contrasting unit on the battlefield wouldn't hurt.

Robes is most of these sculpts so decided to paint them more-less red so squad looks striking on green battlefield. All in all I like the final result, but it's not what I really had in mind when painting started. I used lots of red wash from Vallejo range but it turned out it's just different color compared to paint from few years back. It's rather "rapsberry" then red... 🙄

For other elements the basic plan was to use dark metalics and dark tones for uniform (green or blue). White masks was Tymon Ultraa's idea (thanks for the tip mate!). I didn't even consideded it at first but all in all these faces are just great eye catchers. Because of white masks I also applied some ridicuous old white skull decals from Imperial Guard and Chaos infantry. You get the point: Algeroth, war, death, skulls - shit like that.

There sure will be more of these guys. To prevent getting bored too fast  I split the mob into 3-men squads, There will be surely some color differences  between whem but they should look just great assembled alltogether.

So here they are: cult of Algeroth facing dirty servants of Demnogonis (must say robes look much more red on the pictures then in the display case, guessing it's the matter of light):
