Scarab Lord Chaosmorph (Ilyad Games)

Last weekend I've finally managed to cross off the list special piece among stuff being seasoned in the pile of shame: Scarab Lord Chaosmorph from Ilyad Games. The company is dead for a long time and models from that line are nowdays very hard to get but these are must-have for all Rackham fans.

I've been thinking about those companies recently and cannot believe they fell down - Rackham especially. Back days, when it was fully operational. it had top sculptors, top painters, wide range of models plus game system on top (never managed to see the rules though). But even though it collapsed and it was long before STL files and printers rammed into the miniatures market 🙄

Not sure what Ilyad Games line was supposed to be - spin off of Rackham's sculptors maybe? Cannot tell. But it had solid line of supercoll classic fantasy sculpts: knights, demons, barbarians, fantasy creatures. There was also short line of Chaosmorphs - no idea what was that: demon / mutant / fantasy race. I really liked them and even managed to get he big guy you can see below.

It's official paintwork was stunning - kinda like Rackham's stuff so I didn't even try to copy that. Instead I chose color combo based on classic genestealers: that plus rusty oil drum and voila! - we got ourselves nasty mutated crab straight from rad zone. I regret I run out of Tamiya Clear Red - some fresh blood splatted on claws would surely look eyecathing. So here it is:

Metropolitan prophet

I said it before and I can say it again: for me winter is best period to paint oldie Warzone stuff. No idea why but that's the fact, and another proof after Cartel agents death squad is Semai's favorite saboteur: metropolitan prophet.

This model is based on one of Paul Bonner's amazing mutant chronicles artworks (you see if on the bottom of the post). It's gaming rules were posted in the third supplement (Casaulties of war) so it's part of "new wave" of miniatures. New wave of Warzone 1st ed. stuff that is. Sculpt is just damn cool and much better quality of most of early miniatures. I had lots of fun painting this beautie but now I think it's time to work on some WW2 stuff for a change, to get proper perspective from all that candy stuff.

So here it is - dominating my painting station:

And here about to be arrested by NBC suit squad:

And the original artwork - amazing, ain't it?

Fuel dump

I was actually hoping for painting some corporate mercenaries for the coming Warzone game, but somehow decision was made to add some terrain features for battle report purpose. A while back I made scenic backdrop with with some terrain bits on it (like the one behind secret kohorts unit) but it turned out that static terrain doesn't help much. Big models or large units cannot be arranged as easily as I was hoping for, so all in all I could use only the middle part of the base.

To fix that I removed  the terrain pieces and re-sanded the base so it's fully available for models. Spare parts were placed on separate base as some post-apo fuel station or something. The big one is from Ramshackle games set - you can find lots of supercool stuff there, especially for vehicles and terrain building.

So here it is: fuld dump based on oil drums set defended by Cybertronic chasseurs:

So here's the base with no crap on it:

And objective marker for the coming game!

See you in the field 💂

Great Unclean One

Long time no see. Again... 🙄

For some mysterious reason painting stuff takes me more and more time - my guess the reason was that goddamn summer so Cthulhu be praised for there's autumn ahead.

Anyway today I've finally managed to finish oldie Great Unclean One model from early 2000's. It's probably 4th or 5th G.U.O. piece I painted so far but somehow working on versions of this rotting dude is always ton of fun. Since I had absolutely no gaming use for this model I decided to paint it kinda different way - blue is pretty original tone then it comes to Nurgle stuff. Looking at painted piece I must say I like that color combo.

Like I said I have no use for it so at the end of painting progress decision was made to make a souvenir of this chaotic blob. It's pretty big and eye-catching model so it should look decent in any self respecting office 😎

So here it is: charging troll mutant, straight from rad-zone:

And here: about to devour whole NBC suit squad!

And finally solo session - after eating everything and everyone:

Take care 🦟

Small forest 😁

After providing my battlefield with solid patch of forest it turned out there is still enough materials left to be build another terrain piece. Much smaller but still decent piece of dense terrain to hide a tank, squad of men ot even big and nasty Eradicator Deathdroid

Exactly like before I used mdf sheet to make bases for trees - they can be removed for transportation or when there's too big crowd inside. Lesson learnt this time: using oven to make terrain piece dry faster is stupid idea - mdf soaked with pva bends (surprisingly...) because of the temperature so it's easy way to ruin your work pretty easily.

So here it is - looking forward to see it in action as soon as possible 😎

See? Ents moved so evil robots can have a battle in tough enviroment!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. #2

This time there'll be no dong-swinging - we're back on Earth. Postapocalyptic Earth... 🤖

Last year after reading Michał Gołkowski's "Stalker" novel decision was made to paint a model from post-apocalyptic range. I had only 2 pieces like that so just before winter the first of Stalkers left my painting station

That one was placed in winer scenery, but since there's summer just ahead I thought it might be good idea to finish whole post-apo line in my possession (short line of 2 models...🥺).
Just like before I had lots of fun working on this rad-dude. 1/35 scale brings lost of cool details and such models are just great display pieces. Which reminds me - I think I might place small display case into my office, in order to make it look less like a mortuary and to distract attention of any clients which might stagger into my trap... Errr... Office that is...

That's it for now. Thank you Michał for bringing rad-zone to our homes 😁

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Oldhammer Weekend fever has went away. Must admit first thing painted after the event would be something Undead related, but surprisingly - something else was found on the bottom of the Pile of Shame. Funny thing speaking of this actually:
every time I take a look into the Pile I am wondering whether or not I can paint it before I die, or which models will be left untouched even by undercoat mist. Pretty creepy 💀

Back to the point.
Model I chose is larce scale (1/35?) post-apo inspired character. The moment I took a look on the sculpt and I had that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sign glowing with sick green light in my mind. Sculpt itself is fragile and very detailed - it's one of those sculpts which are just fun to work with from the very beginning.

It's not gaming model, so I gave it fancy display base. I like when miniature tells some story:
I imagine it patrolling perilous wastes after nuclear war. Or something.
Like "Fallout" but during winter.
Nuclear winter...

Land Rover Defender (Gaslands)

Looks like I am slowly getting my Gaslands gang finished. So far there's been Corvette and Nash so the time has come for something more beefy: classic Land Rover Defender. After that there's only single bike left and I think I'm done with Gaslands stuff. For now... 🤖

Contrary to the previous wheelers this time I managed to replace all glass with mesh, so model could be assembled before painting. That made work so much easier! There's lots of space on the car to attach weapon system and upgrades, but all in all I added only dozer blade, engine block and roof gunner. That way model is still believable and doesn't recall Land Raider, Predator, Rhino or any other mooooooar-dakka!!! Warhammer 40000 crap 🙄

While painting the car was fun, working on the gunner was pain in the ass for me. I've painted models from different scales but when it comes to painting human (well... humanoid) figures I feel definitely most comfortable painting 25 - 28 mm scale stuff. Anyway - the result:

And 50-cans worth gang family. I still have spare bike from Implements of carnage upgrade set so I might also work on it if I can only find proper base:

Nash (Gaslands)

Last month Black Sunshine has left the painting desk. Must admit working on those tiny cars is much more challenging then it might appear but also brings ton of fun. So after having the first test game of Gaslands I decided to convert next model more game-wise:
twin-linked machine guns is what every responsible driver needs on Anarchy Road...

Just like before I tried keeping conversions simple. It's kinda like painting: the less (colors) - the better result. Glass was replaced with mesh - it's badass and very post-apo / Mad Max style. Other bits were taken from Implements of Carnage conversion set. At first I wanted to replace original engine with smaller one but all in all I put steel plate and da gunzzz on the bonnet. The model got also extra bumper and conversion job was done.

Initially I wanted to paint it different then the prevoius car, but since they are part of same gang, they should wear same colors and gang marks. I like it: simple but effective. And that means all I need to get whole gang finished is painting remaining Land Rover Defender...

And here's the model before modification. Must say I like upgraded one better... 😋
