Undead legionnaire (gift bit)

Looks like one more restless dead has just decided to leave the painting station looking for new home! 💀
I think there's proper time, place and purpose for every model rotting in the pile of shame to be painted and apparently this one has been bound to end up as member of the souvenir squad

Just like the previously painted legionnaire-gift, I had lots of fun painting this one. Although the sculpt is from mid-90's I still think it's supercool model for painting even for modern standards: easy accesable with every painting tool and spiced with juicy details, like cyber-enchantments or half face torn off. I'd really like to leark who made the model - whole line of oldie undead legionnaires (like these ones for example) is simply brilliant!
While I was working on it went back to high school time, when Warzone was still alive and operational. Of course, back days models were mostly crappy painted (if painted at all), and since we were just kids itn still early re-born Poland - there were much less minis around. These were just pretty expensive compared to our budgets (and I don't even mean Games Workshop stuff, which back days was already fuc#ing overpriced). Nevertheless we were having lots of fun running battles leading crappy armies on crappy battlefields (sticks from park as fallen trees, pile of books under green cloth as hill or even some toilet paper as running stream 😊 ).

Yeah, it was ton of crap but it was also ton of fun.

Cannot remember when was the last time I was remembering these oldie "Warzone times" but I am surely glad they re-appeared while painting the model. It's good to know there's old ghost sitting on one's shoulder, reappearing when least expected just take a look and remind it's still there 👻

Hope the model arrives undamaged and the recipient likes it. Also hope to get better background for post-apo / sci-fi models: that city park in the back is starting pissing me off...

Metropolitan prophet

I said it before and I can say it again: for me winter is best period to paint oldie Warzone stuff. No idea why but that's the fact, and another proof after Cartel agents death squad is Semai's favorite saboteur: metropolitan prophet.

This model is based on one of Paul Bonner's amazing mutant chronicles artworks (you see if on the bottom of the post). It's gaming rules were posted in the third supplement (Casaulties of war) so it's part of "new wave" of miniatures. New wave of Warzone 1st ed. stuff that is. Sculpt is just damn cool and much better quality of most of early miniatures. I had lots of fun painting this beautie but now I think it's time to work on some WW2 stuff for a change, to get proper perspective from all that candy stuff.

So here it is - dominating my painting station:

And here about to be arrested by NBC suit squad:

And the original artwork - amazing, ain't it?

Cartel agents: Crockett, Tubbs and Broccoli

It's been a while but somehow X-mas / new year's eve period was devastating for the hobby. At the end of every year there's more work to be done asap and mostly it drained my life force which I could spend on something more pleasant. Besides I've been thinking a lot (again... 🙄) and conclusion is I am just tired. Got to get my shit together fast.

Since the last post I was deeply hoping for annual (bi-annual actually) Warzone game which would be base for battle report. but somehow me and my opponent couldnt match out calendars. Not mentioning the fact my opponent sold his Cybertronic force, so I had to paint some do-gooders which could face forces of Darkness.

So far I had solid squad of Cartel Agents but I've found some more of them on the bottom of shame-bucket: agents Crockett, Tubbs and Broccoli. Plus re-animated Bauhaus hussar. These models were casted ~1996 but they are still lots of fun to paint. Bring back lots of memories. I read somewhere when you are starting living your past you just got old.
That might me true.

So here's the whole team. Must check if there's any other corporate team on the bottom of one of the buckets, so I can field something decend against hordes of Darkness:

Here the agents are trying to arrest pitiful undead legionnaire:

And here's Agent Broccoli. Painting this one with olive and green made it perfect field agent. That combined with deadly eye gaze and plasma cannon is all you need when heretics leave their lairs!

Undead legionnaires

Warzone stuff rulez! 🤘🏻

The initial plan was to paint another Corporate team for battle report game, but after I found these rotten fellas on the bottom of Warzone-junk-jar, I just couldn't stop myself. These deaders represent the first (blue armour) and the second (red guns) edition of the game. The naked one is kinda mystery model - if I remember correctly is was sold packed by three models (the other one was painted 10 years ago). No idea who sculpted this, but it's just 100% full of oldschool vibe. Brings back lots of memories.

While these minis were being undercoated I just wanted to add them to existing squads, so there's horde of space zombies in the battle report. But after closer examination it turned out, these sculpts were just too cool to deserve tabletop painting only. Each and every one has lots of juicy details making paintwork pure pleasure. Maybe except for the one with red gun and loincloth. This is weirdo even for Warzone standards. It actually look more like some cosmo-goblin, rather then proper animated corpse. But I guess Dark Apostles aren't picky when it comes to gathering forces.

Looking at them now I got that feeling they are RPG characters, rather just undead cannon fodder. Hope to find more of them and cannot wait to see them raging on the battlefield! 💀

So here they are: storming squad led by golem of darkness:

And here - the same squad about to be scorched by Cybertronic Eradicator Deathdroid:

And the fresh corpses...

Razide

Apparently Dark Legion just got another heavy hitter. After painting nasca razide decision was made to give a try to it's big brother from 1997. I've always loved that model - from what I recall it was one of the first models from Warzone 2nd edition I've seen, and it was just totally new level of sculpting quality compared to most of earlier minis from the range.

The sculpt is pretty unique - it's left arm is kinda damaged like it's been grabbed with pliers or something. It's pretty weird 'cause it's surely not my job, so I guess it had some serious discussion with it's creator yet in factory (or in Algeroth's spawning chambers). I didn't fix it, instead it was painted as battle wounds and it turned out pretty cool.

As for the deaders on the pic these were taken of unholy carronade's base. After the cannon got new chassis (tracked instead of wheeled) these two were just collecting dust in the corner of display case. And now, thank to some battle surgery they can prodly cross the battlefield filling the evil will of Dark Apostles...

...ooor trying to stop razide from getting inside the bunker, like this one 🤪

Last evening I've read ruleset for 2nd edition of Warzone. For the very first time in my life. Rules are pretty simple and game is MUCH more balanced compared to it's previous edition. It even seems I should have enough models to assemble small mercenary patrol, so sooner or later battle report should appear... Over & out.

Nasca Razide (Warzone)

The end of year is coming and Warzone is on a roll!

Funny thing about it, but for some mysterious reason autumn / winter is somehow the best moment for painting oldschool junk. My guess: it's subconscious thing - I remember I got lured into Warzone trap when it was cold, so the terapist might find some connection...

Crazy or not since do-gooders got some reinforcements, it was fair to paint something for The Evil Side. The beefcake below is nasca razide from Dark Eden line (Warzone on Earth simply speaking). Must admit I wasn't sure about this model and in the middle of painting I was considering washing it off to start again but all in all model turned out to be pretty cool. It's main flaw is too much muscles on the top (it falls easily) but apart of that - it's classic, goofy piece of art from oldie Warzone.

As for paintwork I decided to keep it "fleshy" instead of violet like on official artwork. Somehow it's totally not my cup of tea. The only violet or blue skin tone in Warzone I can stand is Nepharite of Semai and praetorian stalkers ^^
The gun is just chunk of metal. There was a plan to add some color buttons or stickers but that would make it look like Nerf gun, rather then Algeroth's death device. Plus it's pretty dark and that makes nice contrast with rather monotone model.

Bare flesh is kinda plain so I tried to give it "texture" by adding some cuts. Now I can see I should finally invest in some better quality brush for such task but all in all I cannot complain. Neither can mr razide.

So here it is: facing Cybertronic patrol on Luna's outskirts:

And here about to gun down necromutants commando:

And da beefcake itself:

And the last thing. You might have noticed the globe counter on the right panel has been replaced. About 2 weeks ago that thing simply disappeared. Turned out it was shut down and that's just it. Tried to find some replacement so there's brand new, blue globe spinning right now, but it doesn't seem to show any visits. I'll try to look into it 🤔

Dong ov Doom

Since I am still on Warzone wave and we've already had 3 Warzone games this year ( 😲) decision was made to pimp my trusty Dark Legion force a little bit so further battle reports pics are even more juicy. Apparently one of the most evecatching models from the old range is Unholy carronade. Yup - that's that self-propelled evil penis artillery.

My current version was painted 9 years ago and must admit I still like it (apart from the fact photos were fu#ced by Photobucket), but there's no weapon which cannot be improved by my loyal tekrons. After all - it's been in under my command for 9 years!
Last time apart from fresh paintwork I changed original silly skulls-wheels for Ramshackle games set but now I wanted it to be more all-terrain vehicle, so tekrons put it on tracks.

At first I wanted to use solid, tank hull, to make it look even more serious, but then I found my buddy had spare Bren Carrier model from Bolt Action range. It turned out using this model should make Carronade keep original size (more less). Besides those slim, tiny tracks make whole piece look cute and goofy, so it fits old Warzone line of models just great.

It's been a while since I painted any vehicle from WW2 range so the hull got camouflage based on Jagdpanzer 38(t) and 38.M Toldi which were painted for Axis Hungarian army (sadly - I haven't painted anything else for this force). The cannon itself was slightly damaged while dismantling, so I decided to give it fresh paint. Extra bits come from WH40K Chaos vehicle sprue - for even more demonic goofyness.

Looks like it's high time to prepare new army list, roll out that beast to the front line and spit some seeds of doom over enemy army... 👺

And here with the mandatory crew. Hope to repaint some old undead legionnaires next time I bring Warzone stuff on the painting station, so fresh gun has fresh operators:

And for everyone who thought I might've used my very own dong instead of Algeroth's one for the clickbait photo - you were pretty wrong. You pervies... 🙄😁

Demon hunter (Mishima)

I was actually hoping for painting some more undead legionnaires for nephatire warlord's squad, but instead decision was made to work on rather unusual piece for my taste:
not only alive but also pretty bright 😁 My latest victim was demon hunter from late 90's.

Mishima models are just supercool. The idea of sci-fi samurai faction supported by cool models is something you cannot pass without turning back. Sadly when it comes to playing games I am monogamic and my sould has been sold to forces of darkness long time ago, so don't think I will command Mishina force ever. But that doesn't mean I cannot paint something from that range for a change.

Until I started working on the piece I wasn't sure about the sculpt: I used to think it's just medicore. But I changed my mind just after applying undercoat - model is simply great and not just for oldschool standards. As for color choice I tried to keep it less cartoony then official Warzone paintjobs. Initially the blade was supposed to be painted bright silver but then I thought Ki-force ensorcelled, hot as hell blade is way more suitable to face monstrocities like Alakhai the Cunning:

Here demon hunter is dealing with remains of local secret kohorts:

The model is actually gift piece so it might see some combat tomorrow night and after that it starts the journey to the recipient. And next time: evil machine should roll in... 👾
