Moon Clan (Chaos beastmen) #5- finished! 🤘🏻

The Children of Chaos project is finally finished. Models have actually been painted a while ago, but now they got proper display base. As for the base used about 10 years ago I painted other unit standing on the same thing - Fabius Bile's  Plague Marines. Back days those chaotic creatures got a trophy on Pyrkon painting contest, and now - beastmen were planned to appear on Oldhammer Weekend Poland 2025 (3.10-5.10.2025).

I even signed up for Warhamer Fantasy campaigh, but sadly real life kicked in and hobby plans got dumped. Oh well, maybe nexy year. Or maybe never...

Like mentioned before - working on these oldies was lots of fun. These sculpts are essence of Warhammer spirit for me, and no printed / digitally designed hi-tech boring model can change that. Right now to take a step back from Warhammer I brought good ol' Deathjack on painting desk, but after it's done I deeply hope to assemble another warband from old range. Don't think I have enough junk to assemble Rogue Trader style band, but surely I have enough greenskins for the project...

Looking at viewers counters these models were damn popular compared to other stuff I paint. No idea why - my guess is GW released fresh Beastmen armybook or something. But we'll see what happens when new stuff leaves painting desk. So here they are and back to work...

Moon Clan (Chaos beastmen) #4

Another bunch of beastmen got just finished so apparently Chaos Children warband project is nearly done. The gang is only dozen or so models, but must admit I've slowly started getting sick after painting Chaos only stuff. Looking forward for some change on painting desk. Olive green change...

The last trio are champion (beastlord), standard bearer and school bully - minotaur. I had lots of fun working on them: painting paper banner brings lots of memories. I still prefer paper banners over plastic or icons on stick. It's light so small model can carry pretty large standard without falling off. Bad Moon ain't new idea - 10 years ago I used it on the first zombie dragon project. Sure it should be greenskins' stuff but at the same time it's Warhammer Fantasy, and when it comes to worshipping evil forces - Chaos is not picky.

New models were painted using the same color palette as rest of the group so they all look nice marching together. They still need basing and display base but since it requires lots of pva glue - it also requires lots of time for drying and therefore it gets dedicated post. There's never enough Chaos spam after all... 😁

Minotaur sculpt got pretty aggressive, assaulting pose so for postcard purpose it got worthy opponent - Skaven rat ogre, trying to block falling axe with it's steam-powered, corrupted claw. And because poor rat-man is outnumbered it's assisted by mysterious Raze from Dark Age range. I know it's not Warhammer but who the hell knows what those twisted engineers from Clan Moulder have been working on recently: there might be rat-head under that mask as well... 

For some mysterious reason photos turned out to be kinda overburnt - no idea why: models for matt varnish as always, I used same set of lamps and tested background (pic of Moon Clan #2 were much better). My guess is the Horned Rat got pissed I dared to use rat ogre as sparring partner for minotaur. No matter what the reason is I might dig out light box trying to get as good photo conditions as possible. Ok, back to basing work to get this thing off the list:

Before launching hobby-spam there's quick technical annuncement. As you can see I've slightlty changed layout of the blog. I think it's temporary (header seems bit too massive) but we'll see shortly. I've also dumped "best posts ever" widget. I was nice to have most popular posts around, but sadly most of them contain old pics f#cked by Photobucket back days, so they weren't much cool anymore because of that silly Photobucket logo attatched 🙄

Also a while back I found a bug is "spam of the year" section as well: 

the top post (the one with Plague Marine)  was launched in 2014 and yet it's still on the top last year's best chart. No idea why: there's no way to make any post sticky, tried to re-launch that gizmo - no effect. I can sure delete old post but the again - why should I surrender to some stupid bloggy bug? 🙄

If you have any idea how to fix that - shout, I'll be grateful for any help. 

As for the proper topic - another 3 villains joined beastmen gang, so the project is ~70% finished: there are 3 more fellas to be done + basing. I was deeply hoping to bring them for Oldhammer Weekend Poland 2025 painting contest, but sadly once again real life stepped in so the plan got dumped. Oh well - at least I don't have to rush with them anymore... The guys got bit more reddish flesh tone but apart from that I tried to keep the same color palette so whole team looks coherent marching together. Painting those oldie beastmen is ton of fun, but really cannot wait to cross them off the list to paint something from science fiction range (like Chaos Cultists band from 40K...):

Moon Clan (Chaos beastmen) #2

Chaos Children at the horizon!!! 🐐🐐🐐

Yeah, so summer holiday is finally over (thank Slaanesh, Cthulhu and Satan for that...) so I could deal with some job backlogs and grab a brush for a while to expand Moon Clan crew. Like before I chose 1 gor + 2 ungors to work on and once again painting them was total fun! These models ara fuc#ing amazing!!!

There's so much character packed into those tinies and each models can almost tell own story. Not even mentioning the faces - these little bastards look just so corrupted and evil from a distance and resemble Diablo creatures so much! The one with dwarf's head is surely a child eater! 😨

As for painting I stick to middlehammer era aesthetics: vivid colors and clean, bright paintwork. Hopefully. After years spent on painting everything dark and dirty clean painting it's a breath of fresh air over painting station. Bases aren't finished yet - they'll be done after whole wargand is painted to make all models coherent.

Moon Clan (Chaos beastmen) #1

After dealing with Army of Slaanesh Warriors I started digging in ye bucket ov shame to find something old to reanimate and feed display case with it later. The initial plan was to paint something from Warhammer 40.000 - back days I started gathering some bits to build combat patrol size / RPG squad of Chaos renegades. I don't play WH40K but such warband would surely provide tons of conversion possibilities and therefore - tons of fun!

While browsing my resources I found that old display base which was made years ago. It was supposed to be part of Mordheim greenskins band. I even painted 2 or 3 goblins and snotlings suicide squad, but that was just it 🙄 

During excavation works it turned out there are some beastmen models from the very best period ever and I have just enough of them to fill the display base! Chaos Gods be praised!

Most of models have never been undercoated, rest had to to be stripped to get fresh paintjob, worthy Children of Chaos!

As for this line of models I saw them for the first time in WD#218: it was that White Dwarf where Tale of 4 Gamers started, where models for fresh Chaos army were presented. I fell in love in Chaos since the very first glance into new Chaos force - sadly Beastmen and Daemons were 100% metal so it was totally beyond my reach those days 😢 

These models are not only übercool (and until now are the best Beastmen GW released ever) but also they remind me those creatures from Diablo: fallen ones and goatmen 🤗 Speaking of which - ost from Diablo 1 is just brilliant background for painting these guys...

Slaanesh Warriors army project (update)

Since the previous summary Slaanesh got some new toys, so before whole project is finished I decided to post one more recap. Hope this will provide any motivation for painting fantasy stuff, because painting last 2 chariots took me much too long. I think the main reason is the fact I don't play Warhammer Fantasy Battle anymore, so there's not much preassure to paint - contrary to Bolt Action stuff. 

As you can see below there're only 2 units left to paint: dragon ogres and chaos warriors. While I don't mind painting dragon ogres, I suppose I might get bored in the middle of painting the warriors, so painting army gets prolonged - it's 14-men strong horde after all...

Luckly I've managed to collect different sculpts of infantry, so whole unit should look pretty fine after done and placed on the battlefield.

Great Unclean One

Long time no see. Again... 🙄

For some mysterious reason painting stuff takes me more and more time - my guess the reason was that goddamn summer so Cthulhu be praised for there's autumn ahead.

Anyway today I've finally managed to finish oldie Great Unclean One model from early 2000's. It's probably 4th or 5th G.U.O. piece I painted so far but somehow working on versions of this rotting dude is always ton of fun. Since I had absolutely no gaming use for this model I decided to paint it kinda different way - blue is pretty original tone then it comes to Nurgle stuff. Looking at painted piece I must say I like that color combo.

Like I said I have no use for it so at the end of painting progress decision was made to make a souvenir of this chaotic blob. It's pretty big and eye-catching model so it should look decent in any self respecting office 😎

Chaos hounds

Painting this unit took me much more time then I expected (there are only 6 models ffs!!! 😡) but I'm just so happy I can finally see them in the glass case. In my opinion these are the best sculpts of chaos hounds and I kinda regret I never got opportunity to slap some paint on them back, back days when we used to play Warhammer 5th edition. Looking from perspective must say it was just crappy game, but it had tons of brilliant figures.

Anyway models were painted as part of display Chaos Warriors army project. Because it's Slaanesh army, I am trying to keep colors bright and warm (no matter I like it or not). Such color combo should look really striking on classic grassy green battlefield. Here they are:

While working on the unit I checked the rules for Warhammer 6th edition and realised I cannot have mounted demonettes in core units section. Apparently there was some bug in Battle Scribe or something. Therefore I did some changes and below is what I want to see painted for 2000 pts army (crossed out unit are painted and it's clickable 😊):

I know such army is just more then lazy painting option but I'd really like to place all painted units on a single army base. Placing more models would make whole thing just too crowdy. Now I should ask someone who actually plays Warhammer 6th edition if this force is worthy anything on battlefield 😁 I am pretty sure there will be some minor changes during painting process - dependable what models I can find in the pile of shame (or if I can find them at all).

Candy Lobster Duke

This summer was a hobby nightmare. During two ghastly and hot months I've managed to paint only 5 models and play a single miniatures game. Back days I would naver say that, but thank Satan the summer is over. Maybe now the hobby can be put on the right tracks.

This one took me much more time then is should which makes me double happy my unit of Chaos Knighs got proper champion. Exalted champion to be more specific. The unit itself is pretty strking (for my sandards) so I wanted the champion to be even more eyecatching. At first the plan was to use original mounted chaos model, but all in all decision was made to practice some microscale surgery on innocent victim dragged out from the pile of shame 👨🏻‍⚕️

The rider is Red Duke vampire upgraded with demonette claw, Archaon's shield and mounted on oldie steed of Slaanesh. Personally I think Red Duke is one of the best vampire models GW ever released, but sadly - I was never able to give it paintwork it deserves. Same is this time but I deeply hope the claw, shield, bald head and candy pony efficiently distract viewers' attention from, mostly dull as hell, armour.

The model was placed on monster-size base, because of it's oversized claw, and unit champion's mutated arm: it was impossible to put these two in the middle of the  unit. But otoh it's exalted champion so it can ride as big as he wishes. Besides I can always field is as daemonic mount, which is much bigger then steed of Slaansh. After all these purples and candy crap I should more then happy bringing some Bolt Action infantry on painting station...

Magic number of Slaanesh is 6 but because of the large base the champion kinda breaks the composition (unit is actually 7 "normal" bases wide). So I think he will be riding between other units  alone and the sixth proper model will be standard bearer. I always wanted to paint pinkish banner anyway...

Chosen chaos knights #2

Because of some recent distractions from so-called real life (of course we all know reality is a lie) and unexpected job orders, miniature painting planned for July got slightly delayed but I have finally managed to get the rest of Chaos knights unit done! Which means Chaos army project got ~400 points crossed off the "to do" list.

The unit got champion and 5th knight, so the squad is even more devastating.

As you can see the leader got slightly darker armour, so it looks different compared to the other knights. Darker armour also makes better contrast with blazing sword (I gave it a try befoer on Mishima Demon Hunter model and I really like it). And since it's champion, it got pretty fresh pony, with undamaged barding (at least yet).

As for the other guy it's old chaos knight model from 4th edition of the game. It's kinda static but I must admit I really like that sculpt - I actually regret I don't have standard bearer from this line, 'cause unit could surely make use of it during the battle.

It was fun making simple conversions (as mentioned before - models came with shield arms missing) but while making them I should've checked would it be possible to place models close. Turns out it's not possible because of chmpions mutated left hand... 🙄

But since there's also exalted champion planned to be added (which will be riding steed of Slaanesh) I hope to assemble it in the way it can be placed next to mutated hands.

The last one is pretty blurry - it's either because the heat of the enchanced blade or because knights are riding just too fast for my camera. Sadly I am too lazy to re-take the shot... 😶
