Daemon prince (Warhammer)

Hey again,

It took me bit longer to prepare anything worthy posting (longer then I expected that is) but I'm just so glad I can see it standing in the glass case finally.

The star of this post is oldie Daemon prince of Slaanesh. 

Or Khorne - model fits both options in my opinion.

As almost always there's a story behind the model:

this one is a piece I've seen in the very first WD I got back days, when Middlehammer was just on the top. New Chaos rulebook was being released bringing Daemons army.

Back days full metal army was totally out of my reach but just when the daemon gazed upon me from White Dwarf page I've been tained by Evil and knew one day I'll get it painted.
And that very day came just came.

Nowdays most stuff being released is hi-tech placcy.
Fuck it. That's just not my cup of tea.
But few months back I've spotted auction where someone was selling painted oldschool piece, which actually arrived to my place few days later...

Model was broken to pieces and spent quite a long time marinating in breaks fluid so whole paint came off nicely. Must say I was so hyped I finally got the model I didn't notice there was claw arm missing...
Too bad, because that piece is just sooo Slaanesh'y.

But that wasn't the only thing I've noticed while drilling and assembling the model again:
I've noticed the metal it's made of was just much harder to drill compared to metal models assembled ever before.
Did some research and it turned out the piece I got was most probably a recast...

I've seen recasted resin models on market but metals?
Ok, it's old model and available only second-hand but if it really is knock off the fuck who casted if could be at least decent enough to cast the missing arm as well...

Nevermind.
The model is painted and I am glad so see it done. There are still some Chaos models waiting in the bucket of shame, which one day might leave it and form Mordheim warband.

Blood, undead and deep space

Hey again,

Deadcember is nearly over so I am glad I can share a painted deader.
This time it's oldie dire wolf / doom wolf from Warhammer Fantasy (or whatever else it's name is nowdays) range. This one was painted as part of my Mordheim undead warband - which might me finished after wights are painted. Found and painted that is.
The blood I'm sharing is actually for excavation ritual. Hope that works...

Anyway, the model it rather simple:
lump of fur + some teeth and bones but still I had some fun painting it. It's always fun trying to make a piece interesting using mostly washes and pigments.
Still it's more than enough for vampire count's lap dog:

What else?

The last time I've mentioned about painting contest Sherman howitzer was painted for. Since there's still plenty of time 'till the deadline I decided to paint small tank hunters squad from Bolt Action soviet army. I don't use them but that came free with KV-2 tank as tank riders.

Wasn't sure about these models, in fact didn't like them at all at the beginning but after getting them finished and sealed I've changed my mind. They are cool.

I really like the details like the bottle, red stars, caucasian faces etc. Models come with lots of equipment so it's rather easy to change poses to make the models unique.

I also tested using airbrush for painting intantry. Until now I've been using it just for large models. In my case airbrush didn't make work drastically faster, but it was really useful for sculpts which are mostly plain uniforms. Hope you like them.

And there's some more!
Like 2 weeks ago friend of mine brought X-wing game and we had some test playing. I've seen the game like 3 years ago, but back than it didn't impress me much.

This time we had ton of fun with it.
In fact there was so much of it I also got myself a base set (50% promo!!!) and last night infected some members of local Masonc lodge... eee... eee...
Gaming club! Yes, that's right: gaming club...

So I showed the game to some buddies from "the gaming club" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) and I'me rather sure the starter box won't be the last word in this matter.
Besides I want to try repainting some ships so it you are into X-wing: stay tuned...

A piece of advice from the beginning pilot: don't drink and fly ^^

M4A3 Sherman 105mm howitzer

Not much motivates stronger to get the job done than painting contest. 

Huzzah! \o/

In the previous post I mentioned about the online contest I decided to participate in and what you can see below (and above) is just finished entry. 

The first entry actually, since I also hope to assemble and paint small unit (there're some greens I want to give a try and soviet infantry seems to be perfect guinea pigs).

Model below is plastic howitzer from Rubicon Models. I chose it to deal with zee Germanz nasty infantry, since it's much more reliable than Sherman T34 Calliope...

The model has been slightly modified:

it's been assembled with all hatches open, so in the front right I added crewman from the Hellcat set. I had to chop it's arms off to make it fit but he's allright now.
Doesn't need arms to sit inside and look around for new target...

As for color choice the general idea was to make it rather bright. 

Wasn't sure about adding the fresh mud, but last weekend friend of mine advised dirty models look more badass than dusty ones so here you go.

Among contest rules there's posting several wip-pictures so you can also see the whole process. Who knows, maybe someone can make a use of it:

Necromutants - all done!

Finally, after many, many years (first blister was purchased in 1997!) all necromutants in my possession are painted and ready to serve for eternal glory of Algeroth! Bwah, hah, haaah!!!

Quite an achievement especially given the fact painting itself wasn't THAT time consuming...

I mean look at the models - rather easy to paint: 

some clothes, some armour, boots, gun, stupid faces and sand on the base. That's it.
Did I mention stupid faces? Ah yes...

Still these are, I mean: these WERE part of models I've been having since the very dawn of my hobby and even though for many, many years haven't been appreciated by getting paintjob. Partly because these were such a crappy unit during our early "powergaming Warzone" (nimrods and nazgaroths for everybody!), partly - back days I was getting many models having no idea what for. Fresh gamer syndrome I guess... 

But they are here and I am so glad I've finally saved them from the bucket of oblivion.

Looking at them I can clearly see giving a try to simple camo uniform was good idea, too bad I don't have desert game table anymore ^^ 

Still I'm quite sure Algeroth's finest will do their best in any circumstances, no matter how deadly local enviroment might be: cold alien planet or green fields of Normandy...

So here they are, whole brain dead family: three squads led by badass Nepharite.
It's actually  ~700 pts combat patrol I hope to see in action shortly...

I know why these were left to be painted in the very end - it's because of stupid faces of centurion and the monkey with open mouth. Absolutely horrible...

As mentioned in the previous post I was hoping to upgrade a bit Eradicator Deathdroid but since there's just been announced 17th edition of online painting contest on Strategie forum (warning: Polish board) I might reorganize the waiting line and put M4A3 Sherman howitzer in front of Cybertronic device.
Such events are great motivators for paint slapping especially given the fact I need that tank for my Bolt Action US force. And some dry pigments are just about to arrive for testing...

Necromutants squad - nearly done!

Hey all,

Looks like my long-distance plan to get Necromutants painted is nearly executed:

last week I've managed to move 3 more of those brain-deaders to the painted side of the force, so apparently there are only 3 models left: centuriion (squad leader) and 2 troopers.

Funny thing those models:

it's like one / twice every year me and my buddy get into "Warzone nostalgia" which result is playing maybe 2 games and in my case - painting couple of oldie minis.

I really like it must say, that "flashback factor" or as I call it "time travelling" makes painting Warzone stuff more enjoyable then other hobby shit in my possession.

Also kinda makes me feel old ^^

But I also think maybe it's a good thing, to look deep into self, calculate balance of profits and loses, philosophise a bit instead of "just" slapping paint on the toy soliders. Miniatures hobby has many  different aspects I guess.

Right...

So below you can see those recently painted trusty Algeroth's soliders.

I tried to keep similar color scheme on the whole squad (like these and blurred these and these ), so they look coherent on the table. As you can see pics taken in 2016 were fucked by Photobucket so looks like sooner or later I'm going to take fresh photos of the collection.

As for the Eradicator Deathdroid you can see in the background, it was painted in 2015. 

I've always like it: pure killing machine, looks cold and heartless and rather serious, 

not like all those GW walkers with ton of skullzzz, spikezzz, candles (!!!) and other shit.

During moving to the new place sth got wrong: hope the pins I nailed it to the base are ok but the model bends forward, which might request some more glue or maybe extra pinning.

Since it's on the painting station I thought I could upgrade it a bit:
I am about to order some paints so I could get Tamiya's Clear Red and make the chainsaw REALLY gory (that actually reminds me oldie Mayhem's Chainsaw gutsfuck...). I could also add more chipping and give it some oil washing - should look nice on those large surfaces.

Sounds like a plan - but that's after the Necromutant family is complete.
