Mordred the Damned

After painting two rather chilling models decision was made to work on something much more warm. This time I excavated supercool sculpt from Brigade Models - Mordred the Damned.

It's the second (and actually the last...) model in my collection from the Celtos line. Don't know why this game was never popular here - the sculpts are simply gorgeous: nicely detailed and full of character, perfect for gifts. And this is the reason I chose it:

My son is getting 9 years old in a few days and because he likes playing with miniatures I try to encourage him to get little deeper into the hobby.

Yeah, yeah... Daddy's gonna turn the kid into miniatures addict... 😅

It's the second b-day model I've painted for my firstborn - the first was Aragorn from Lord of the Rings (kiddo claims he still has it and it's still not broken! Huzzah!).

Since it's a special occasion model I put it on plinth instead of standard, gaming base. Besides there is much more space on the bottom for some birthday wishes. Here is is:

As mentioned before Mordred is the second model from Celtos I've painted so far - the first was Cernunnos which was finished just before moving to the previous flat, over 6 years ago. The model still stands proudly in the display case (it even made it into Brigade Models gallery!) and I still like it enough to give it fresh photos - old ones got f#cked by Photobucket... 😠

Happy birthday, Georgie! All the very best from your oldschool dad! 🤡

Dark ages are coming...

What the title said: there are dark ages ahead!
There's a plan to move to the new flat in about a month, which is ALWAYS terryfying experience, but more important (and dark) I broke the new year's vow. Broke is again to be honest:
I purchased the miniature!

The model is Mordred the Damned from Celtos game range. I've already painted another deader from Celtos game range a while back, which was even posted at Brigade Models' site, and Mordred is another cool sculpt I wanted to see painted on nice display plinth.

But it wasn't like I was sitting in front of PC screen and accidentally added the model to the shopping cart. This fella was an addition to Dark Age books!
Browsing forums is dangerous and may be quite tempting. After reading some Dark Age fluff I decided to get some old DA materials for the hobby bookshelf in the new place. I got old Genesis, Evolution, Exodus and Essence. These grimoires are packed with nasty Brom's drawings + some juicy fluff so I finally know something more about Dark Age minis.

The seller gave me nice discount so there was no other choice but getting something new for The Pile*, so here's for story of Mordred.

Last week after having Necromunda game (Finally! A month long break from gaming was something I could barely stand) I brought some Skarrd and Brood models and there's a chance we will give the game a try.
Necromnda is fun but playing just one game for over 1,5 year now is getting kinda boring. Dark Age has really cool and morbid fluff which fits my painting style ...
At this stage I am planning to run small 500 pts Skarrd tribe so there goes the vow again ^^

Last Saturday apart from the phone bill the postman delivered something else:
something ancient, evil (according to human standards) and bound to ocean...
Great Cthulhu has arrived!

As you can see below it's an old sculpts and I think according to "modern" standards it's just ugly. Well it is... But I've never considered Cthulhu type of Justin Bieber handsome guy ^^

After a month long waiting the Great Ancient One have knocked at my door (hmmm... Can someone actually knock with a tentacle?). and am very glad I decided to use Father's Day promotion at RAFM site.
The model is as you can see - big. It's also very old sculpt so there is a lot co complain about casting and more important - assembling. But I am strongly motivated to see it painted nicely standing on large display base. Keeping fingers tentacles for it!

And the last part of this week update:
Works on the Galleon moved a bit forward again. At this point the model itself is being painted rusty browns but here you can see it standing on the second muddy base. At first I wanted to add some more chunks of mud but then decided to hear the client's opinion:
I think the base is fine as it is especially for gaming purposes (apart from the barbed wire not much can fall / break off). When I was pouring the mud on the base I realised I like it a lot.
So much that similar bases will be used for my Skarrds.
Apparently I owe the client a beer - thanks dude! ^^

So as you can see - quite a lot of minis are started / being started, hope to present the painting results shortly.

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhy R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!

Back to painting

Finally!

Mezoghoul has been sent to the client over 2 weeks ago so I can finally paint something for myself and surely - something smaller this time.
Lesson learnt: next time before accepting any painting commission for model I don't know I will ask for scale photo.
I haven't got info the model arrived to Sweden safe and sound so I hope whatever is going on my panzer-box provides totally damage proof enviroment for Mezoghoul (the model has been actually sent inside 2 boxes and lots of sponge).

What else?
Last weekend we managed to add some more plaster on the modular Necromunda game table. Some gaps were filled so whole thing is closer to sand+pva maelstrom stage.
I would really love to take some days off to finish whole projects and I think it is a plan after passing the exam next year (hopefully...).
I still have to make a big multi-level bunker for the last module so I think the best I can get yet in 2011 is the thing ready for sand.

As for painting there are 3 minis on the desk now:
The first one was painted for Chest of Colors miniature exchange #5 (once again thanks for it Phil! ).
The model is cool superhero (or supervillain) sculpt I got from Przemas some time ago but until now I had no motivation to paint it. A shame to admit...
I like the model but just don't collect superheroes.
So 3 evenings of painting, some pva and one of COFCers for another model:

Another one is something which made me pretty happy and proud actually - not because of painting quality but because it's the first mini from fantasy range I painted for a looong time.
Cernunnos is cool thing from Celtos range which I got from Navarro some time ago. Another reasom which makes is special is the reason it was painted: the first FUUK online painting contest.
Contests always do miracle when it comes to boosting motivation.

And the last one - which will hopefully become my second entry for the mentioned event: scaly.
Because the Scavvy gang is complete (thank you Evilbay!!!) all I need is painting (and re-painting...) the rotten gangers.
As wrote before - imo original scaly models are shit compared to the rest of the gangers so I decided to hire replacements.
Besides thank to this I could choose the best weapons possible for these steroid fuckers: club and sword, which gives scaly: 3 attacks, 6 strength and parry. Add to this 4 weapons skill, fear and armour save and the opponent can start looking for spare underwear ^^
Anyway for model is based on LotR Moria Troll which I got (again) from Ebay. All I did so far is replacing weapons with scratch built sword (pcv sheet + some greenstuff) and
club (heavy stubber + some nails). I think I will add some armout we well but at this moment - the wip:

The next post will surely include it painted - hopefully before the friday night game.
Cheers!
